The Eugene Ballet Academy

Eugene Ballet Academy’s unique partnership with the Eugene Ballet Company offers students extraordinary opportunities to perform with professional dancers, who serve as role models for the aspiring younger performers. The students learn about the level of skill required to be a professional dancer as well as the dedication and responsibility of performing with a company. Also, they are exposed to the elements of costuming, makeup and hair, and the technicalities of backstage. The students find the performances on the Silva stage at the Hult Center to be thrilling.

The academy students may audition for Nutcracker as well as other ballets in the repertoire of Eugene Ballet Company. Watch this page for future announcements of audition times and locations.

Aspirant and Pre-Professional Student Training Programs

Eugene Ballet Academy (EBA) Aspirant and Pre-Professional Student Training Programs support the development of aspiring students interested in pursuing a future in the world of professional dance. Both programs demand a high level of commitment and are recommended only to student dancers dedicated to working diligently toward a career in dance.

Aspirant Program
The Aspirant Program focuses on intense regular interaction with Eugene Ballet Company (EBC), where students study, rehearse and gain professional experience in a professional setting. Close contact with EBC provides Aspirants with several educational advantages including the opportunity of accelerated training at the company level and integration into the daily training, rehearsal and performance of ballets associated with Eugene Ballet Company.

Aspirants are cast in EBC repertory throughout the year. Additionally, during EBC lay off weeks, Aspirants will continue with ballet technique classes and rehearsals with guest choreographers/stagers, learning their own ballets/dance works. Aspirants participate in their own performing program at various venues and events throughout the season (regional tours, Wildish Theater performance, Northwest Dance Festival performance).

The Aspirant Program follows Eugene Ballet Academy's season calendar—September through April—with a one-week pre-season training intensive in August and an optional post-season training in May. Aspirants receive an education equipment stipend of $1,200 for the season and an allotment of shoes for each term.

Selection to the Aspirant Program is through audition.

Pre-Professional Program
Eugene Ballet Academy offers a Pre-Professional Program specifically designed for advanced level classical ballet students not yet eligible for the Aspirant Program because of age and/or proficiency. Close contact with Eugene Ballet Company provides students with several educational advantages including professional performing opportunities, the opportunity to work with guest teachers and choreographers, and to experience a unique perspective of the daily challenges in the life of a professional dancer.

Pre-Professional students are required to participate in EBA classes and Eugene Youth Ballet (EYB) rehearsals and performances throughout the EBA season. In addition, students may attend Eugene Ballet Company ballet classes while the Company is in residence. During specific weeks throughout the season, Pre-Professional Program students may join Aspirants to participate in classes and rehearsals with guest choreographers/stagers, as well as perform in Aspirant performance programs.

Acceptance to the Pre-Professional Program is through selection and EBA Director's approval. Students not enrolled in EBA and seeking acceptance are required to submit references and audition (or submit a DVD or youtube link for those unable to audition in person).
